One of the Australian National Unviersity
software engineering student projects displayed today was a
Radar Target Simulator developed for
CEA Technologies. Students previously productized software to test CEA's
CEAFAR Active Phased Array Radar. The new project was to integrate this with other radar simulators using he simulation framework standard adopted is the High Level Architecture (HLA) and
US Defense Modeling and Simulation Organization (DMSO) Real Time Infrastructure. This is not just a hypothetical exercise, the Australian Defence Force is investing heavily in a new surface fleet, made up of
Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyers and upgraded
Anzac class frigates, with sophisticated phased radar, to protect the two
Canberra class Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) amphibious assault ships.
