Green IT developer role available at ANU

Samuel Fernandes, ANU Green ICT Project Officer (and a former student of my Green Information Technology Strategies coruse) needs a part time software developer for a green ICT project, as part of the ANU Green ICT Project Plan. This would suit a student of green ICT.

ANUgreen ICT Project

The ANUgreen Sustainability Office has initiated the Green ICT Project that investigates the energy use of ICT at the ANU. This includes the energy use of the servers, data centres, desktop computers, printers and multi-function devices and the network devices. This project has calculated the baseline energy consumption and carbon footprint of ICT at the ANU and is looking for students with development skills to get involved in certain areas of the project.

Role Description

Expression of interest are now open for the role of developer to contribute to the development of a tool that would assist in improving the energy monitoring of the ICT devices on campus. The developer would be charged with designing and developing the tool to assist the green ICT project officer to analyse the findings of the project.

Responsibilities include:

a. Working with excel, SQL databases in analyzing the information.
b. Working with the Green ICT Project officer in designing, developing and testing and launching a program that would showcase results of the project. c. Collaborate with the Green ICT team at the ANU in gathering data and information on the energy consumption of ICT devices.

Selection Criteria

  • Experience of working with SQL, Excel
  • Experience of software development
  • Interest in environmental sustainability issues
