ICT Companies Rated on Environmental Performance

According to the media release "Gartner and WWF Assess Low-Carbon and Environmental Leadership in the ICT Industry 2010" (October 28, 2010), Gartner rated 28 ICT companies on their environmental performance. The leaders were: BT, IBM, Cisco, Ericsson, HP, Fujitsu, and SAP. Those which did not rate so well included: Accenture, Alcatel-Lucent, CSC, Dell, Deutsche Telekom, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, TCS, Verizon, Wipro and Xerox.

Unfortunately the "Summary Report: Low-Carbon and Environmental Leadership in the ICT Industry by Gartner and WWF, 2010" costs US$1,295.00 for 53 pages. This makes the research inaccessible to most of those who could carry out an independent analysis of it. As Gartner's methodology cannot be independently assessed it is of no practical use in rating companies on the environmental performance. It is unfortunate that WWF decided to endorse this study.
