UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction

The United Nations have a useful web page about their "International Strategy for Disaster Reduction". The aim is to building resilient communities which can cope with disaster, rather than having to wait for external assistance. They have a lot of useful information, but hard to find behind an overly busy web site design. This is unfortunate, as good web design is one of the was to deal with disaster.
