Second stage of Shipping Container Apartments in Canberra

3D rendering of a modular apartment at Laurus Wing, Ursula Hall, ANU by Quicksmart HomesModularised shipping container apartments will be delivered to the Australian National University in Canberra, 24 and 31 May 2010.These are for Stage 2 of the Laurus Wing of Ursula Hall . The apartments are delivered by truck as 40 foot standard size shipping containers and then stacked up to six high to quickly form accommodation for students. The containers are already fitted out with kitchens, bathrooms and balconies.

It's shameful that the university student experience has degraded to resorting to mass produced accommodation to keep up with excessive international student numbers. It's likewise disappointing that the units are not even manufactured in Australia.

The units are currently being offered to graduate students. They are jumping at the chance to be self contained with their own cooking facilities (cooktop, oven,refrigerator) toilet and shower and not have to wait in line for all of the above.
Very innovative.
