The Australian Hobart class Air Warfare Destroyer project has been delayed by two years. This is due to problems in construction, but also helps reduce current government costs. Upgrades to the existing Anzac class frigates with Australian designed CEA Technologies' CEAFAR and CEAMOUNT phased array radars have gone well and will, have lessened the effect of the delay in delivery of the new ships.
However, the Australian government plans to proceed with building new submarines in Australia. Given the problems with the less complex destroyers, the probably of building up to twelve operational submarines on time and on budget is close to zero.
