Hmlet Cantonment: a 21st Century Youth Hostel

View from computer desk in common room
A co-living residence is the youth hostel of the 21st Century. I had the smallest roomHmlet Cantonment, but still comfortable, with a reasonably sized bathroom (larger than it looks in the photos). There was a shared kitchen upstairs, & a laundry room down. Reception is a large room with another kitchen and bench with computer screens and office chairs. You can plug in your laptop, work, and look out at the garden. Outside my room were trees and I could see what looked like a temple across the road: a pleasant outlook. Bring your keep cup & water bottle with you. There is cold and hot water, plus ice in the kitchen. Much of the time the common areas are silence, but there are occasional chats. Overall much more pleasant than a hotel, especially an upmarket hotel. And Hmlet Cantonment is not just for young people: I was not the oldest guest.

Reminds me of an episode of Angel.
The building is only two stories high and is an old school (later Corruption Commission HQ) and has a slight art deco vibe. On my way to get some ice from the kitchen one night I was reminded of an episode of the TV series Angel, where he was living in a 1920s hotel and went down the corridor for ice. There were no Femme Fatales on this occasion, just a student from the southern USA, being chatted up by an insurance broker.
