Green IT Limerick

The ACS Canberra IT Award for Green ICT (Corporate) went to the Australian Crime Commission (ACC) for their energy saving efforts. Peter Lucey, General Manager, PSARN International, recited the following limerick at the awards ceremony on 25 November 2009:
LIMERICK – GREEN IT

WE’RE REWARDING IT THAT IS GREEN
I THOUGHT – WHAT COULD THAT POSSIBLY MEAN?
IS IT THE COLOUR OF THE BOX?
OR THE SHADE OF THE NERD’S SOCKS?
AHA! - INFO FROM GOOGLE I’D GLEAN

GREEN IT IS A BIT AIRY-FAIRY
TO QUANTIFY IT, IS A LITTLE BIT HAIRY
I UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN
IT MUST BE – WELL, - CLEAN
BUT TO JUDGE COMPANIES CAN BE A LITTLE BIT SCARY

SO IT’S CARBON WE’LL TRY TO REDUCE
PERHAPS WE’LL HAVE TO CUT BACK ON THE JUICE
NO MORE PLASMA TVs
WE CAN’T JUST DO AS WE PLEASE
AND ACCEPT THE INEVITABLE ABUSE

SO MY FRIENDS, YOU REALLY MUST KNOW
POLLUTANT REDUCTION IS THE WAY WE SHOULD GO
WE CAN USE CARBON TRADING
THOUGH OUR OPPORTUNITIES ARE FADING
BUT WE HAVE COMPANIES WHO CAN MAKE IT SO.
