Australian perspective on humanitarian intervention

Dr Clinton Fernandes, Senior Lecturer, Australian Defence Force Academy, will speak on "An Australian perspective on humanitarian intervention" at the Australian National University, Lecture Theatre 2, College of Business and Economics, 7 pm, 13 September 2010.

The ANU Political Academy invites you for a discussion on the Australian perspective of humanitarian intervention, how decisions to intervene are made and the factors that contribute to this decision. Dr Fernandes will use a brief case study of East Timor to illustrate how Australia balances moral and political issues, and how Australia performs on a world stage. Questions that will be considered include - How do we define intervention? And what does our obligations extend to?
