Ford Backing Open Source Car Apps

Ford Motor Company are supporting the use of OpenXC open source hardware and software to build in car applications. The system interfaces to the CAN bus via the On Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) port and to a host computer using USB. This allows the computer to monitor car performance and other parameters. Currently supported are some recent US models of the Ford Focus, Mustang, Fiesta and Figo. The system is designed to initially interface to Android or Arduino hardware. Amazon sell some Arduino kits, but it is not clear if these are compatible with the Ford system.
