Greetings from
Barcamp Canberra 2012 where Christopher Giffard is reprising his excellent talk on
captioning digital video, (including his own too a tool
Captionator.js) from the Web Standards Group this week. The short version of this is that
webvtt is likely to be the supported format for captions for subtitles for videos on the web. Within a few months this should be supported by the major browsers as part of HTML 5. This will make captioning videos much simpler. It will also be possible to provide a table of contents to allow the viewer to jump to a part of a video, which will be very useful for education.
