ABSTRACT:
Dr Dan Arvizu, the Director of the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will provide an overview of US and global technical and market trends with renewable energy. This will include a review of progress with renewable energy research and development and deployment along with the technical and economic potential of these technologies.He will also highlight examples of success stories with renewable energy research and market penetration. In addition, he will describe NRELas research, analysis, commercialization, and deployment programs.The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (www.nrel.gov) is the USA's primary laboratory for renewable energy efficiency R&D, and has a budget of about $540 million. NREL's R&D areas of expertise are:
*renewable electricity
*renewable fuels
*integrated energy system engineering and testing

BIO:
Dan Arvizu became NREL's eighth Laboratory Director on January 15, 2005. Prior to NREL, Arvizu was an executive with CH2M HILL Companies. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Federal and Industrial Client Groups. Before joining CH2M HILL, he was also an executive with Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked for more than 20 years. He began his career at the AT&T Bell Telephone Labs Customer Switching Laboratory. Arvizu was appointed to the National Science Board by President George W. Bush.
