Gerry Harvey of retailer Harvey Norman, is reported to be part of a
campaign against overseas online retailers being GST exempt. However, Harvey Norman also claims to be
Ireland’s largest retailer of furniture, bedding, electrical and computers.
Harvey Norman New Zealand sells goods online. Goods ordered from Ireland and New Zealand would be exempt from Australia GST. So Harvey Norman is one of the stores which Mr. Gerry Harvey is criticising.
Correction: There appears to be no functioning online ordering facility on the Irish and New Zealand Harvey Norman web sites. Therefore I was incorrect in saying that Mr. Harvey was criticising his own company when commenting on the GST free status of overseas web stres. My apologies to Mr. Harvey.
ReplyDeleteI was confused by the Harvey Norman web site design. I assumed that as the company had gone to the trouble of setting up an online store, they would be selling products.
There is a link marked "Order Now Online" on the NZ web site. But this seems to be only for ordering
photographic prints and does not work anyway.
The limited functions of the Harvey Norman NZ web site do not appear to be functioning correctly. When I tried to register I got:
"Proxy Error
