Your Son's Search Engine

Greetings from the Australian National University in Canberra, where Grant Ingersoll from LucidWorks is speaking on "This ain't your father's search engine". He argues that the era where customers type in some text and are presented with a text list of possible matches is over. Instead the search results can be presented as charts and maps. It may be that you do not have to enter any search terms at all as systems such as Google Now, anticipate your needs. He gave the example of LinkedIn's people recommendation system, which uses the open source Lucene search engine and which I find frighteningly effective. Grant will be speaking Monday 7 July at SIRIP 2014 on the Gold Coast and the Melbourne Search User Group, in Melbourne, 10 July 2014. Also there is a recent video "Hacking Lucene and Solr for Fun and Profit".
