Road Survey Vehicle

On Sunday in the industry suburb of Mitchell in Canberra's inner north, I noticed a Mercedes van equipped with dozens of sensors. This turned out to be an ARRB Network Survey Vehicle (NSV).This scans and records the condition of the road as it drives along. There are seven video cameras on a roof rack pointing all round the vehicle. There is a Digital Laser Profiler (DLP) attached in front of the bumper to record the road surface condition in detail. Perhaps some of these sensors could be incorporated into the Google street view cars and they could provide comprehensive public road condition data.
