Cancel Printed Phone Books to Save Paper

Telstra now have a service "Directory Select" to opt out of receiving printed Yellow and White Pages telephone directories. To opt out you enter you address into an web form and receive an acknowledgement by email. The opt out lasts for three years and a reminder is sent for renewal. The same web site can also be used to order extra phone books, if required.

This looks a useful service for those concerned about saving paper. However, as online directories improve, at some point it would make sense to switch to an opt in system, where you do not get a printed directory, unless you ask for it. But I expect that will be five to ten years away.
